Welcome! Let me share some of my story with you.
As a teenager, I had a love hate relationship with organization.
kept my car organized and clean
always put my sneakers back in their boxes so they stayed fresh (I'm a sneaker head)
used a monthly calendar to write down what I wore each day so I wouldn't repeat outfits that week
my bedroom stayed messy
I wasn't the best at keeping track of school work because I didn't write to-do list
I spent money recklessly
It wasn't until I moved out at 18 that I began to live a more organized life because it was my space and I wanted it to look good. I started with organizing my living space. Then I met my husband, had two daughters within a two-year span, moved from Maryland to Texas, bought my first home, worked from home, and decided to go to college online while he was deployed. It was during this very fun, tiring, busy, and exciting time of my life that I became more organized. I started journaling regularly, I kept logs of my daughters activities, and I kept a daily to-do list to ensure I got my school projects and work completed on time. This is also when I began my financial organization. I consolidated all my debt and was finally able to pay it off.
For the next several years I was living what appeared to be my dream life. I had a loving husband, two smart and beautiful daughters, a custom-built home, earned my bachelor's degree in education, and got my dream job as an elementary school teacher. Many years later I realized that although my life was going well I wasn't truly happy. My life moved so fast at such as young age that I hadn't taken time for me or my marriage. I had to do some soul searching and figure out how to organize my mind and thoughts.
I started reading books, researching, prioritizing myself and my marriage and started taking back control of my life. I made sure to schedule time for me to spend with myself at least 10 - 15 minutes each day. Sometimes I would go on walks or just sit outside, other times during my commute I would turn the radio off and think. I also made sure my husband and I went on at least one date a month so we could continue to nurture and grow our marriage.
The last part of my life that I needed to get organized was my finances. I used to pay my bills first then; I would do whatever with the rest of my money. That method of organization wasn't working. I would end up using my credit card because I forgot about this bill or didn't account for this expense, and before I knew it, my credit card balance was several thousand dollars. It was at that point I decided to do something. I started budgeting monthly, which was very eye-opening and has taught me financial discipline. I also started investing and saving more.
Going through all the ups and downs of life I have learned a lot and I attribute my success to my ability to get and keep my life organized. You too can do the same!
We are very capable of living our best life! The first step is to commit to change and take it one day at a time. Celebrate your successes and don't let your mistakes hold you back!
YOU deserve the best!
